Tbilisi: The Deputy Head of the National Food Agency Vasil Basiladze was elected as the Vice President of the European Regional Commission of the World Organization for Animal Health(WOAH).
The 90th General Session of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) Assembly was held in Paris this year as well, traditionally. Representatives, experts and partners from 183 countries, discussed animal health issues and solutions to existing challenges in the five-day session.
The delegates of the organization elected the representative of Georgia, the deputy head of the National Food Agency, the country’s chief veterinarian Vasil Basiladze as the vice president of the European Regional Commission of the organization.
Vasil Basiladze has been holding the post of General Secretary of the European Regional Commission Bureau from 2021.
Once again, the role of Georgia in ensuring reliable epic situation in the region was emphasized. Vasil Basiladze thanked the delegates and noted that Georgia will again be actively involved in the reforms set out by the organization’s agenda and will implement all measures that will help prevent and control animal diseases in the region.
World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has 183 member countries. The organization plays a leading role in determining veterinary policy in the world and oversees its implementation.
WOAH international standards regulate more than 120 animal diseases, including zoonoses (common human and animal diseases), which are regularly updated and confirmed in general session. These standards help countries mitigate the negative effects of disease and ensure a safe trade in animals and animal products.
