Lia Gigauri addresses students on Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Process

Tbilisi: Lia Gigauri, First Deputy Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, addressed the students with a word at the seminar on “Importance and Prospects of Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Process” in the occupied territory of Abkhazia.

Lia Gigauri introduced the specifics of the agency’s activities to young people who were forcibly removed from the occupied territories and spoke about the peace policy of the Georgian government and the efforts of the Minister’s apparatus in this direction. 

She stressed the importance of raising awareness and informing young generations about the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as discussed their role and opportunities in state reconciliation and inclusion policy goals.

“It is in the process of implementation, along with the fight against misinformation, which is largely against our country’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations”, said Gigauri. She also spoke about the importance of such projects for young people living in occupied territories of Georgia.

At the meeting, attended by students living in the occupied territory of Abkhazia, Lia Gigauri thanked NATO and EU Information Center and the Embassy of the United States for organizing this important event.

Tamara Tsuleiskir, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Information Center of the US Embassy in Georgia, and the Head of Public Diplomacy Department, addressed the seminar to the Ministry of Foreign affairs and the US Embassy to Georgia Alexander Daniels.

During the one-day seminar, young people also had the opportunity to hear information from Davit Bujiashvili, Director of EU Assistance Coordination and Sectoral Integration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia S on the process of European integration, its importance and perspectives. 

The talks also touched on the importance of applying for EU accession and future steps envisaged in accordance with the criteria. Natia Gvenetadze, Senior Adviser of the Department of Defense of the National Security Council, on the goals and tasks of the North Atlantic Alliance, NATO Open Door Policy, NATO-Georgian Cooperation Dynamics and in this regard, he talked about the progress he made.

The seminar was held within the framework of the United States Department of State-funded project “Increasing Awareness and Engagement of Western Integration in Regions of Georgia”.
