Georgia: Tributes pour in for victims of Sagarejo shooting

Tbilisi: Following the horrific shooting incident at Sagarejo, which left five dead and five injured, the tributes and condolences have been pouring in for the families of the victims. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, expressed his grief in Facebook post, which read as:

Tbilisi: Following the horrific shooting incident at Sagarejo, which left five dead and five injured, the tributes and condolences have been pouring in for the families of the victims. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, expressed his grief in Facebook post, which read as: 

“I express my deep condolence over the tragedy in Sagarejo that claimed the lives of a police officer and four civilians. My deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased, relatives, hero police colleagues and the entire Ministry of Interior. I wish a speedy recovery to the victims of the attack.”

While investigating the matter, one Senior Detective of the Kakheti Police Department, Senior Lieutenant of the Police, named Otar Ghvinashvili, succumbed to the gunshot from the accused. The attacker opened fire on the police from one of the apartments. As a result of the wounds sustained, Senior Lieutenant of Police Otar Ghvinashvili died. 

The Georgian President, Salome Zourabichvili, extended her deepest condolences to the victim families and the police officer who lost his life on duty. “I am deeply saddened by this tragedy. I want to express my condolences to the families of victims and the police officer who sacrificed his life in the attack of Sagarejo.”

Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, also expressed his grief. In a social media post, Kaladze wrote, “I am totally shocked by the terrible tragedy that took place in Sagarejo. I express my heartiest condolences to the families of the dead, their relatives, to the whole of Georgia! Among the dead is a police officer who was on duty.

I would like to express my condolences to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri!In these difficult moments, the whole of Georgia is praying for the health of the injured. Wishing them a speedy recovery!”
