Tbilisi: The meeting of the supervisory board of “Agriculture and Rural Development Project” was held in the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia. Giorgi Khanishvili, the Georgian Deputy Minister of the Environmental Protection and Agriculture , headed the meeting between the departments.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili, thanked the Deputy Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Mamuka Meskhi for their effective cooperation and focus on the importance of the project in the development of the sector.
Additionally, the Council members presented the report of the work done in 2022 within the project and discussed a working version of the policy document, which reflects the main results and recommendations of the integrated rural development approach.
The conversation between the representatives also touched on the importance of inclusive development in the village.
It is noteworthy that the main objective of the “Agriculture and Rural Development Program” is to strengthen the competitiveness of the agriculture sector, increase food production, and reduce rural poverty and social inequality.
It is important that, by piloting different approaches and small grant investments, the project has supported the implementation of the 2015-2020 Development Strategy of Agriculture and the 2017-2022 Strategy of Rural Development.
The project has been undertaken by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Georgia (FAO) with the financial support of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).
The meeting was attended by the relevant heads of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, Austrian Development Cooperation Rural Development Program Manager Beka Dzadzamia, and project representatives.
