Georgia: Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia meets USDA Atashe Christine Muma

Tbilisi: In a meeting held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Minister Otar Shamugia and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) Atashe Christine Muma spoke about the close cooperation that exists between the two countries and discussed the programs implemented and ongoing by the USDA.

“Georgian Ministry of Environment and Agriculture has been connecting strategic partnership and cooperation with the United States for many years.The U.S. support is crucial for us, to the development of the agriculture sector. The work of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the USAID (USAID), for which we are really thankful for is highlighted, stated the Georgian Agriculture Minister, Otar Shamugia.

At the meeting, the USDA Atashe spoke about the importance of the participation of the Minister of Environment and Agriculture in the climate summit, which is planned to be held in Washington and invited Otar Shamugia to attend the summit in the US.

“Climate change is a challenge for the whole world today, so it is very important that as a close partner of the United States, participate in the summit planned in May,” said Christine Mumma.

At the meeting, Atashe also talked about USDA-supported programs and noted that the United States is implementing a number of programs / projects for the development of Georgia’s agricultural sector and is ready for more involvement and further expansion of existing support.

The First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili and Deputy Nino Tandilashvili, Head of US Embassy Economy Department Jean Foster and USDA local office representatives attended the meeting with Atash.
