Georgia: The Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs expelled 37 citizens from different countries in January 2025, who were staying in Georgia without any legal grounds.
The employees of Georgia’s Migration department expelled those citizens on the basis of a Georgian law “on the legal situation of foreigners and non-citizens.”
The Georgian Migration Department deported the citizens of Moldova, Egypt, Armenia, Russia, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nigeria.
It was also known that some citizens left the country voluntarily, and some others were forcefully expelled from Georgia through the measures taken by the department.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia recently posted this information on its official Facebook page on February 9, 2025. The Ministry stated, “Employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs deported 37 citizens of different countries from different countries last month.”
The country’s citizens are glad with the decision of the Georgian Migration Department. Some say it is good to expel those foreigners who are living illegally in their country, they also expressed their gratitude towards the Ministry of internal affairs of Georgia.
One person in the comments said that, “the law about staying in Georgia should be changed, you should have the right to stay for 3 months in a year and not as it is now, they cross the border and start counting again, soon we will be in the minority unfortunately.” Some others say the law should be stricter in the country. Some others demand the government to throw such people away, and they should be punished.
The Ministry also explains that its Migration Department is responsible for combatting illegal migration within the country. One of the main objectives of the department is the removal of foreign citizens staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
It should be noted that, in 2024, the Georgia’s Migration Department deported 430 foreign individuals from the country, and the number is increasing year by year. The Ministry also noted that the year-by-year increase is 26 percent.
