Georgian civil aviation agency congratulated people over big boom recorded ay aviation sector of country.The recent data reflected 24% increase in air passenger served by Georgian airports.
The data in this regard has been summarized by the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The in-depth detail of data revealed in 2024, Georgian airports served 7,450,652 passengers on regular and non-regular flights, which is a record passenger flow for the country.
At the same time this data reflected that the number of passengers received in 2024 was 24% higher than the number of passengers transported in the same period in 2023. It is noteworthy that 2023 was also a record year for civil aviation with 6,013,995 passengers transported.
Last year, Tbilisi International Airport served 4,750,425 passengers as revealed by recent data collected by GCAA. The increase compared to 2023 is 29% more. Kutaisi International Airport transported 1,722,804 passengers. The increase in passenger traffic compared to 2023 was 3% there.
Similarly Batumi International Airport served 951,766 passengers in 2024, which is 53% higher than 2023. As per experts associated with the travel industry 2024 was also a record year in terms of flights. Last year, a total of 32,528 flights were operated at Georgian airports. Of these, the number of regular flights was 25,342 Â and the number of charter flights was 7,186.
On the other hand, as compared to the number of flights operated in 2023, the number of flights operated in 2024 were increased by 24%. The use of Georgian airspace has increased significantly in last year as compared to previous year. Compared to 2023, the use of Georgian airspace has increased by 29% which reflected growth trends in travel industry of Georgia.
Similar trends were shown by cargo transportation sector as well. The positive dynamics were maintained in terms of air cargo transportation. In 2024, the volume of cargo transported by air amounted to 25,695,581 tons. Compared to 2023, cargo turnover has increased by 25% another sign of fast-growing aviation industry of Georgia.
On analysis of data Wizz air emerges as leader in Georgian aviation market in terms of passenger transported. Â The airline holds a 17% market share and has transported 1,259,069 passengers. The top five in terms of the number/percentage of passengers carried on regular and charter flights as following:
