Georgia: The Georgian Palace of Art-Culture History Museum hosted an exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Merab Kokochashvili on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Tinatin Rukhadze, the Minister of Culture of Georgia congratulated the director on his birthday and wished him creative success.
The exhibition was organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture. In parallel with the exhibition, a filmmaker’s and a teacher’s handprint was opened in the Ark of the Immortals.
It should be noted that the exhibition featured photographic materials, posters from films, sketches, family photos, letters, and manuscripts.
Notably, Viewers were allowed to see the costume from the movie “Giorgi Saakadze“, in which Merab Kokochashvili plays the role of Paata, as well as the interview of the director’s portrait character. They will be able to see the Exhibition at the Telavi Historical Museum until April 24, 2025.
It is to be noted that the Renowned Georgian filmmaker Merab Kokochashvili is the People’s Artist of Georgia (1986) and Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi (2022).
The evening was opened by the curator of the exhibition, Lali Khositashvili. The opening of the Exhibition was attended by the Minister of Culture, Tinatin Rukhadze, the director of SS “Georgian Film,” Khatuna Khundadze, and academician Tamaz Shilakadze.
It is noteworthy that Khatuna Khundadze and Tamaz Shilakadze also congratulated Merab Kokochashvili on his 90th birthday and wished him health and longevity.
“Georgian Film” announced 2025 as Merab Kokochashvili’s anniversary year. To mark the date, with the promotion of the National Center of Cinematography of Georgia, Merab Kokochashvili’s two films – “Mikha” and “Mtsvervali” were restored.
With the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, the publisher “Bakmi” publishes Merab Kokochashvili’s autobiographical book, and on April 24, the director’s jubilee evening will be held at the Kote Marjanishvili State Professional Dramatic Theater with the support of the ministry of culture and the municipality of Tbilisi.
