Georgia: The Georgian homeland of Levili hosted events dedicated to the 8th anniversary of the transfer of the homeland to Georgia and the 100th anniversary of the 1924 people’s uprising.
The events will be attented by Minister of Culture and Sports Thea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze, Mayor of Leville Eric Brevi, Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Eliso Bolkvadze, Member of Parliament of Georgia Beka Odisharia, Member of Parliament Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Member of Parliament Givi Chichinadze, Director of the State Museum of Art Nika Akhalbedashvili, Giorgi Chita Director of the Ethnographic Museum named after Ia Nino Chipashvili, manager of Leville Georgian-French Memorial Museum Teona Melitauri, deputy manager Thieri Berishvili, head of the National Archives of Georgia Teona Iashvili, granddaughter of Noe Jordania Irene Tsitsishvili, grandson of Akaki Chkhenkeli Tamar Chkhenkel, representatives of Tbilisi and Gori State Universities and Academy of Sciences and National Archives were present.
Members of the Georgian delegation, along with French guests, decorated Leville’s cemetery memorial with flowers. During the events, an exhibition prepared by the National Archive of Georgia was opened, which presents books from the personal collection of Thieri Berishvili. Leville Chateau Museum Foundation was established on September 20 in Tbilisi.
His first exhibit is a chess figure donated by the legendary chess player – Nona Gafrindashvili. It should be noted that in January 2025, the rehabilitation of the chateau will be completed. A museum and library will start functioning here, which will become an important block of Georgian history in Europe.
Also, a memorial plaque dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the 1924 riots was made.
Events held in Levili Georgian Homeland ended with musical performance of “Georgian Voices” – “Tsutisopeli“, which is a project of Temur Chkuaseli, Givi Chichinadze and “Georgian voices“. This is the history of Georgia told with Georgian multi-voiced songs.
It is noteworthy that the director of Dmanisi State Dramatic Theater named after Zinaida Kverenchkhiladze is in the renovated residence of Levili’s motherland and is performing a performance that will open the fully renovated Dmanisi Theater this year. After this, Levili residential area will host theaters named after Zugdidi Shalva Dadiani, Gori Giorgi Eristavi and Zestafoni Ushangi Chkheidze.
Rehabilitation works of Levili’s homeland began actively after returning to Georgia. The main goal of the rehabilitation of the motherland is to preserve the authentic face of the buildings. Rehabilitation of Leville’s native chateau is underway, with a completely replaced roof.
The process of renovating the facade and shutters is at its end, works are also underway in the interior. Rehabilitation of one part of the chateau is finished, the homeland will be fully renovated by the end of the current year. On the first floor of the chateau, the Museum of the History of the First Republic and France-Georgian Relations will be located, and on the second floor eight living spaces will be arranged.
Until September 2026 will be organized in the homeland territory: Leville Georgian Academy, Museum and Archive Space, Library, Conference Hall, Media Room, Georgian Corner – Georgian Ode, Vineyard, Kevvri and necessary components for the promotion of Georgian wine.
It is particularly noteworthy that seven Academy of Art master and bachelor’s sculpture students visited the Leville Creative Residence for the first time this year, whose seven sculptures, created on the theme of freedom, will be placed forever in Leville’s Homeland Park.
The second event of special importance is the Georgian Festival of Levili, which, for the second year, is managed by the support of the Ministry of Culture. The festival presents Georgian culture, sports, art, traditions. It is symbolic that this year the festival was opened on May 26 – Independence Day of Georgia in the homeland, which our ancestors who lived here saw us as a haven of freedom.
The festival is a clear example that the Ministry of Culture is successfully implementing a plan, according to which our country will have a multidisciplinary cultural and educational center in Europe as Leveli and will continue the tradition, which was founded by the ambassadors of the First Republic of Georgia.
