Georgia: A working meeting was organized by the Legal Issues Committee, Regional Policy and Self-Governance of the Georgia Parliament, and the Committees of Environment and Natural Resources. The meeting was organized under the framework of Georgia’s National Association of Local Self-Governments.

The representatives from the natural resource management authorities, the Georgia Energy and Water Supply Regulatory National Commission (SEMEC), the SIP Mineral Resources Agency, the SIP National Forest Agency, and the SIP National Environment Agency attended the meeting.

This information was shared by the Dusheti Municipality City Hall on its official Facebook page on April 25, 2025, Friday. The City hall also shared glimpses of the meeting along with the information.

According to the information shared by the city hall, it should be noted that the meeting was held in the Parliament of Georgia and was attended by the mayor of Dusheti municipality, Vice President Matsatsatso Narimanidze, and others. Notably, the members of relevant committees of the Parliament of Georgia were involved.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the needs arising as a result of consultations with the municipalities of Lower Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, and Kakheti regions and discuss the possibilities of legal changes.

The issues raised by the committee would address existing regulations between local and central governments, which, according to the views expressed at the meetings, in some cases, create obstacles in the effective management of local resources by municipalities.

Along with environmental issues, the meeting discussed improvements in energy regulations to help municipalities work more efficiently.

Representatives of the agencies participating in the meeting held in Parliament appreciated the format of the ATEA Committee and expressed their willingness to work on refining legal mechanisms and deepening cooperation with municipalities.

As noted at the meeting, the Legal Affairs Committee will continue working meetings with municipalities and other government agencies to contribute to integrating experience and insights gained at the local level into the legal framework.
