Tbilisi: The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili condemned Georgian diplomats. She said the diplomats’ silence is unfortunate  with regard to  wrong policies of the Georgian Dream-led current regime of the country.

It is worth noting that November 3 is observed as “Diplomacy Day” in Georgia every year. The day recognises the services of Georgian diplomats to promote strong international relations.

According to the president diplomats’ silence is a clear acceptance of the government’s anti-people agenda. According to her the government’s many actions have made the country’s path tough for Europan integration; however, not a single diplomat has resisted these anti-people policies.

The president took to her social media handles to express her anger over the diplomats. As per the president’s social media post, “ Although we every year observe diplomacy day on November 3, I cannot extend congratulations as Georgian diplomats have failed to resist the anti-people policies of the government.”

I want to tell these diplomats that if you can not reign, at least raise your voice. Moreover your failure to raise your protest is damaging your credibility. Notably Georgia has been observing Diplomacy Day for the past twenty years.

The day is celebrated in honour of the famous writer and diplomat Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani. He approached the monarchs of Europe to seek help for King Vakhtang 6. The president while speaking further underlined that We should take the initiative to bring good governance to the country.

Moreover, it is our moral responsibility to celebrate this special day with pride. The name of Sulkhan-Saba is very great and needs great respect from all sections of society. In addition, the President commented that we respect our diplomats, who play an essential role in maintaining strong relations between Georgia and foreign countries.

However  we cannot accept diplomats’ silence when the country is in dire need of resistance to anti-people policies that can take Georgia far away from its path to European integration. She blamed diplomats for not arranging proper steps for voting of people living in foreign countries. She said future generations will not forgive them.
