Tbilisi: July 30 is marked as the World Day against human trafficking. The prosecution office of Georgia today vowed to maximize their efforts to curb the problem of human trafficking. The office held an information meeting in private company to raise awareness regarding the growing menace of human trafficking.
It is to be added that the Office of the Prosecution General of Georgia has shared this information on its social media handles. As per the official Facebook post of the office, “In connection with the International Day of Combating Human Trafficking an information meeting was held in a private company with the cooperation of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Labor Inspection Service of Georgia.”
Moreover the people employed in a private company attended the meeting held to raise awareness about human trafficking as well as labour exploitation or bonded labour etc. Most of the time the persons who are victims of human trafficking are forced to do bonded labor. Bonded labor is forced labor under compelling circumstances without paying the dues.
On this occasion the Procurators and representatives of the Labor Inspection Service spoke about the state policy of combating trafficking, its achievements and its challenges. They also apprised the workers of how they Can play an active role by helping the agencies fight human trafficking.
It should be noted that according to the report of the United States State Department, which was released on June 24, 2024 Georgia is still at the highest level in terms of measures taken against human trafficking. Among 33 countries worldwide it has maintained its place at the highest level for the 9th year in the first basket”.
This year Georgia is the only one in the region with the highest rating maintained by the US State Department. The Georgian prosecutor’s Office continues the effective fight against trafficking by implementing a strict criminal law policy and measures coordinated at the national or international level so that the menace can be eradicated from Georgia in toto.
