Tokyo, Japan: The international exhibition of natural wines and alcoholic beverages “ProWein Tokyo,” took place in Tokyo, the capital of Japan from April 15-17, 2025. The event was supported by the National Wine Agency.
9 cellars of Georgian Kveri (Qvevri) wine producers took part in this worldwide exposition, “ProWein Tokyo 2025.” The exhibition was attended by up to 50,000 visitors, including wine professionals and representatives of the commercial sector.
The presentation of Georgian Kevri wine at ProWein Tokyo was important for increasing the popularity of Georgian wine in Japan, the search for potential importers, and the growth of exports by wine producers.
“ProWein Tokyo” in Japan was attended by Georgian Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Teimuraz Lezhava. Georgian entrepreneurs received support from the Embassy of Georgia in Japan to represent wine at the exhibition.
An educational masterclass and tasting of Georgian wine was also held in Tokyo, attended by 30 wine professionals, and media and commercial sector representatives. The tasting featured seven Georgian wines of various varieties.
The tasting was headed by a French Academy of Wine (Academie du Vin) expert and well-known in the Japanese wine industry, Frederic Cayuela on behalf of the Japanese company “Oteroirs K.K.”
It is also worth noting that Japan is one of the strategic markets of Georgian wine, where with the support of the National Wine Agency, the first large-scale presentation of Georgian wine was held in 2014.
Wine agencies hold wine-tasting events every year. This has benefited the winemakers in multiple ways and enhanced their income levels.
The Georgian wine companies participated in various wine exhibitions like the “Foodex Japan,” “Wine and Gourmet Japan,” “RAW Wine Tokyo,” “ProWein Tokyo,” and local wine competitions, as well as presentation-tastings of Georgian wine, held in various Japanese cities with the assistance of the National Wine Agency. At the same time, tours of Japanese wine professionals and media representatives were arranged in Sakar.
