A Georgian delegation took part in the ICAO Fourteenth Air Navigation Conference, which was held in Montreal, Canada. The conference was attended by 750 delegates from 93 countries.
The conference will run until September 6. This year participants discussed the stable development of the aviation system and the improvement of efficiency in the background of the growing dynamics of air traffic in all airports across the globe.
The event’s opening sessions discussed current issues for the civil aviation industry, including global environmental challenges faced by ICAO, member states and industry. The discussion also covered measures to implement rapid technological advances.
he decisions and recommendations made within the forum’s framework will be submitted to the Council for approval and, if necessary will be again discussed at the ICAO Assembly in 2025.
It is worth noting that the Georgian delegation held meetings with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar and Council President Salvatore Shaquitano during the event. At the meetings all attendees positively evaluated Georgia’s high results in the 2024 ICAO aviation security audit.
At the same time it was emphasized that the surveillance indicators for Georgia’s have improved compared to the previous audit and are now at 89.75%. The country takes a leading place in the region’s aviation sector. When discussing issues of bilateral cooperation the active involvement of agency representatives in ICAO programs and working groups was noted. The agency’s activities regarding sharing experiences with the region’s countries were given a positive assessment.
On the other hand at this occasion the leaders of the International Civil Aviation Organization once again confirmed ICAO’s unwavering support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, including Georgia’s position on Sukhumi issue which concerns the inadmissibility of international flights from the airport.
During the air traffic management conference the Georgian delegation also held meetings with representatives of partner aviation agencies, international aviation organizations and educational institutions to take more progressive steps in the aviation sector.
