Tbilisi: After the Central Election Commission of Georgia requested it, the government announced October 25 as a national holiday. The decision was taken for proper arrangements at public schools and kindergartens for the October 26 election of Parliament.
It is worth noting that the Government has accepted the proposal of the central election commission to make better timely arrangements to conduct the elections.
The commission will establish the number of polling stations at public schools and kindergartens for the parliamentary elections, which will be held on Saturday, October 26, throughout the country.
According to updates from the election commission, if regular educator activity continues in these public schools, kindergartens and other institutions, it could create problems for a peaceful election.
As most of the schools and kindergartens will be used as polling stations, a declaration of holiday becomes necessary.
After the formal request received by the government, the government released a press statement in this regard. The statement contained that it is always ready to provide all kinds of assistance to the election commission so that a peaceful and safe environment can be created for a smooth election process as well.
The Central Election Commission further underlined that preplanning time for the election is very important. Moreover this will help the election commission staff reach the polling station on time and build the polling booth.
The inventory and equipment placement at the election booth is an important step that is fulfilled one day before the election. A total of 3031 polling stations will be established across the country. Of the 3031 boots, 478 will be created at kindergartens.
At the same time, 1675 booths will be opened in public schools. 873 spaces have also been earmarked as reserves for election purposes. The election commission officials added that they are making every possible effort to conduct a peaceful election.
Anyone with a grievance can approach the office of the central election commission. Special helpline numbers have also been created. These numbers can be dialed to register a complaint regarding the elections.
