Tbilisi: Shalva Papuashvili, the speaker of the Georgian Parliament criticised the European Union for the resolution proposing sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili. He called the resolution shameful and disgusting.

The speaker’s criticism was directed directly against the draft resolution, which calls for imposing a ban against Bidzina Ivanishvili. The EU resolution further calls for the release of former President Mikheil Saakashvili. The speaker said that the resolution demanded the imposition of sanctions against Russia is illgeal.

Papuashvili, while speaking further added that Ivanishvili’s role cannot be underestimated as he with his efforts, brought long-term peace to Georgia. He also stated that the people who prepared the resolution wanted to directly attack Bidzina Ivanishvili which we cannot easily accept.

It is worth noting that the EU resolution has underlined the promise by Ivanishvili and other leaders of the Georgian Dream, including Prime Minister to ban the opposition after the elections which are scheduled for October 26.

As per the speaker  the proposal in the resolution on Mikheil Saakashvili is very heartbreaking. This is a clear example of how officials of some European Union are using illegal pressure to save Mikheil Saakashvili from just punishment. This demand is totally illogical and cannot be accepted at any cost.

The draft demanded that this ruling regime release the former president and called upon Georgian Dream to provide him with the necessary health treatment.  The speaker on the Russia ban said this finally revealed the real intention of some European Union members. Notably, the Speaker stressed that some people with vested interests wanted to create trouble for Georgia.

It is worth noting that the foreign agent law adopted by Georgian Dream was also called the Russian law by its opponents. The speaker  in the last part of his address said, the resolution was direct interference in Georgia’s internal affairs.

According to him this is an attempt by a European Union leader to influence the decision-making of voters who will vote in Georgia on October 26.
