Georgia: Givi Mikanadze, Member of the Committee on Sports and Youth Affairs, Head of the Youth Affairs Department in the Parliament, held an introductory meeting with the representatives of the EU Delegation.
Givi Mikanadze informed the guests about the plans prepared by the committee for the development and promotion of youth policy.
The conversation focused on specific legislative activities, as well as the analysis of existing legislation in relation to the Association Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
According to Givi Mikanadze, the analysis, which will be prepared by the end of 2022, will allow the committee to make new legislative changes to various existing laws.
According to him, the changes are planned to be discussed at the 2023 spring session.
Speaking about the measures taken to strengthen the oversight function, Givi Mikanadze focused on the concept of 2020-2030 approved by the committee.
The MP spoke about the planned activities in the local self-government and stressed the importance of increasing the involvement of the youth in the decision-making process.
“All these initiatives, which were prepared within the committee in terms of strengthening youth policy, were positively perceived by the representatives of the EU delegation. They fully supported these processes. At the meeting, we agreed on more intensive communication and more intensive involvement of the EU in specific activities. During the meeting with the guests, the specific projects implemented by the European Union in support of youth policy in Georgia were also discussed. On their part, special attention was paid to the strengthening of the oversight function of the Parliamentary Committee, which is one of the most important functions for the Parliament and for the committee in particular. It should be noted that we have intensive communication and coordination with the Ministry in this regard,- said Givi Mikanadze.
