Tbilisi: The representatives of “Friends of Georgia” a group of European Countries, have urged Georgian authorities to investigate all incidents of election fraud. They have also demanded an international inquiry to reveal the truth behind all incidents.

The demand in this regard came Yesterday from “Friends of Georgia” as they released a joint statement. Moreover the group’s officials further demanded the imposition of a strict ban on Bidzinaa Ivanishvili along with all officials of other political parties who tried to disturb the peaceful election process on October 26, 2024.

All the representatives who signed the statement also stressed their strong commitment to supporting Georgia. They also agreed to extend all kinds of assistance to the Republic of Georgia to uplift democracy, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.

The statement also expressed its “deep regret” at Georgia’s recent democratic trouble. Some troublesome incidents include strong regulation of media houses, which also limited the space of independent media voices.

At the same time, the officials of European countries who have signed the joint statement also added that It is miserable what happened in Georgia on October 26, election day. Moreover, we demand to European Union for banning politicians as well as the officials of Georgia responsible for election fraud.

The strict action against the responsible will ensure the future election process’s transparency in Georgia, which is necessary for a healthy democracy.

The statement further calls to freeze the European Union’s funds for Georgia, with some exceptions. The exception will cover projects under execution for the development of civil society infrastructure and law maintanece.

However, as per the statement there the financial assistance for Georgian civil society organisations and independent media houses should continue in the future. This financial help of such institutions will ensure the growth of democracy and democratic values in Georgia.

Notably, despite demanding strict action against people responsible for election day fraud, statement calls for the continued support of the Georgian people and their fight for European Integration.
