Georgia: The Ministry of Health of Georgia hosted an event dedicated to the International Day of Books and Copyright on April 24, 2025, Thursday. Notably, World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading.
It is also worth noting that on this special day of book giving, the Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze, together with deputies and Ministry employees, donated up to 500 books, fiction, and scientific literature to the libraries of penitentiary institutions.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare shared glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page on the Day of International Books along with some details.
According to the details provided by the Georgian Health Ministry, it should be noted that during the event, an exhibition sale of the works of convicts was also held. The Health Minister of Georgia Mikheil Sarjveladze, together with Deputy Minister of Justice Giorgi Dgebuadze inspected the exhibition sales and appreciated the works of the convicts.
As the Deputy Minister of Health Giorgi Tsagareishvili noted, the constant renovation of the libraries of prison institutions and the exhibition-sale of prisoners’ handmade items, from which the income is transferred to their account, promotes their socialization.
The Ministry in its post stated that, “On April 23, the International Book and Copyright Day was declared by UNESCO in 1995.” According to the Ministry, the initiative aims to promote literature, encourage reading, and remind the whole world of the importance of intellectual property. On this day, in different countries, books are given to each other, to celebrate April 23 is referred to as Book Donation Day.
The event held in the Ministry of Health was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Health Irakli Sasania, Irine Tsakadze and Tea Giorgadze, Director of the Center for Vocational Training and Training of Convicts Tamta Demurishvili, Ministry and Center employees.
