New Delhi, India: The Government of India has responded to the request of the Government of Nepal as it mobilized the first tranche of 20 kidney dialysis machines to Nepal. The Nepalese Government had requested for 200 kidney dialysis machines for the sake of patients longing for treatment for months.

The machines were handed over to Nepal’s Minister of Health and Population, Padam Giri, by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava.

During the handover ceremony, the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, stated that it was really a pleasure for us to handover the 20 machines out of the 200 machines that the Government had requested
a year and a half back.

He further informed that the remaining 180 machines would be provided soon in the upcoming days, which will surely help in uplifting the healthcare facilities in Nepal. India and Nepal are more than just neighbouring nations, working together on various developmental projects, with the health sector being a top priority.

To name a few, Srivastava recounted the bilateral projects that the countries have been coordinating on, including the Nepal-India friendly Emergency and Trauma Center in Kathmandu, the first trauma centre with specialized facilities, the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences-Dharan, Bir Hospital’s OPD Complex. Notably, India has built 132 health posts across Nepal following the 2015 earthquake.

The Government of Nepal launched Bipanna Nagarik Kosh , in the wake of the People’s Movement to provide financial aid to the ones suffering from serious diseases, including Cancer, Renal failure, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, head and spinal injury, sickle cell anaemia, and stroke.

The patients suffering from renal disorders or failures had been long waiting for treatment in the absence of adequate dialysis machines. The Government of Nepal has allocated over 2 Billion Nepalese currency to Nepal Realistic Solution for the treatment of eight serious diseases, from which about 52% has been spent on kidney diseases.

At the same time, more than 50 hospitals, nursing homes and dialysis centres run by NGOs have agreed to provide free service with the health ministry.
