Georgia: Inter-agency desk and field practical training organized within the framework of the EU-supported project (SAFE), which took place on July 9-10 in Tbilisi, was completed.

About 150 representatives of the divisions of the State Security Service, Internal Affairs, Defense, Health, and Environment Ministries took part in the training. Within the scope of their competence, divisions of agencies participating in the event performed works according to the predetermined scenario.

The aim of the teaching was to coordinate agency efforts against the spread of chemical, biological, radiation, and nuclear (CBRB) threats.

Georgian units participating in the training completed the tasks in the scenario presented by European experts and earned their highest rating. Participating agencies also demonstrated the national capabilities required to respond to KBRB incidents in the country.

The process was observed by the Deputy Head of State Security Service, Major General Giga Nikoleishvili, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, and foreign experts.

Giga Nikoleishvili (Deputy Head of the State Security Service, Major-General): “The inter-agency table and field training held within the framework of the EU project SAFE has been completed, in which relevant divisions of several agencies participated.” During the learning process, the importance of coordinated and agreed working of response structures in the country during emergency situations was well demonstrated. I am glad that the relevant authorities in our country have successfully discharged their duties and demonstrated a high level of training.

The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency representatives are attending the ongoing expert training. It is worth noting that we cooperate particularly closely with the DTRA in the direction of CBRB. As a result of many years of cooperation, the Georgian special service has significantly improved its professional skills, and the relevant units are provided with special equipment.

Drillings like this one are being conducted periodically by engaging our US and European partners, significantly strengthening cross-country coordination and improving incident response capabilities.

The event was attended by the Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Major-General Giga Nikoleishvili, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Head of the Emergency Management Service, Temur Mghebrishvili, the Head of the National Security Council Office, Levan Tzasiashvili, and other participating agencies and organizations.

The State Security Service of Georgia is the Chairman of the Inter-Agency Commission for Fight Against Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRB) Threats.

These trainings are conducted in the country with the coordination of the State Security Service.
