Georgia: Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili headed the first sitting of the Coordinating Government Commission for the Census of Georgia. It was held in the government administration.
At the meeting, the National Statistics Office of Georgia submitted to the Commission for approval the 2024 census program, which includes the basic principles of the census and methodological and organizational issues.
According to the program, the date of the next census is set by the Coordinating Government Commission at the end of 2024.
The census will provide updated information on population life expectancy, gender and age structure, employment, education, health and housing.
According to the decision of the Government Coordinating Commission, the agricultural census will be carried out along with the population census, which will result in the collection of information on the agricultural activity of households, together with social and demographic data.
The Government Census Coordination Commission was established by a resolution of the Government of Georgia and consists of heads of state agencies and representatives of international organizations. The last census in the country was conducted in 2014.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council adopted a resolution on June 10, 2015, requiring member states to conduct at least one census in the “2020 World Round of Population and Housing Census”, taking into account international and regional recommendations. The period 2015-2024 has been defined as the 2020 World Round of Population and Housing Census.
