Young public officials from Latin America and Caribbean countries visited the Jighaura base of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center of Jighaura on Tuesday.
The working visit was held within the framework of the Professional Development Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia – Capacity Development Programme (CDP) “Strengthening Global Connections through Public Sector Development.”

The members of the delegation were hosted by Levan Ujmajuridze, the director of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center, and were introduced to the main points of the center’s activities, the importance of protecting agro-diversity, and conserving genetic resources. The guests visited the unique collections at the base of Jighaura and got to know the center’s scientific-research activities in different fields of agriculture.
During the visit, the members of the delegation visited the Museum of Vine and Wine. Nikoloz Kirvalidze, the senior specialist of the Vineyard and Winery Research Service, introduced them to the information about the history of Georgian vineyards and wineries, the diversity of local vine varieties, and the wine culture of Kevri. Guests also learned about Georgian winemaking traditions, which are an important part of the country’s cultural heritage.
At the end of the visit, a tasting of wines made from rare and local Georgian grape varieties was held at the base of Jighaura. Members of the delegation had the opportunity to get acquainted with the distinctive taste characteristics of Georgian wine and the unique variety of grapes.
