Johannes Hahn discusses Georgia’s progress in EU Membership with Levan Davitashvili

Tbilisi: Johannes Hahn, the European Union(EU) Commissioner for budget and administration, on Thursday, met with the Georgian Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili. The meeting between the officials was held in Brussels.

Tbilisi: Johannes Hahn, the European Union(EU) Commissioner for budget and administration, on Thursday, met with the Georgian Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili. The meeting between the officials was held in Brussels.

The officials from both countries discussed the progress of Georgia on its way to acquire the membership candidate status of the European Union. Georgia has been progressing towards the fulfilment of the 12-point recommendations put front by the European Union. Already, laws are being formulated on de-oligarchisation as well as the formation of an anti-corruption agency.

Also, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine was an agenda of their discussions during their meeting, as well as the economic progress Georgia has made following the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Davitashvili also met Kadri Simson, the energy Commissioner from the European Union, along with the EU’s commissioner for transport, Adina Valean. The sides discussed the mutual relations between Georgia and European Union and the other aspects where the cooperation could be potentially extended from both ends. Discussions regarding the bilateral ventures were also made at the meeting.

The project for connecting Europe with Georgia to supply power through the Black Sea as Georgia paces ahead with ambitions to become a leading power supplier to Europe formed an important aspect of the meeting.

Energy Commissioner Simson emphasized the future prospects of the relations between Georgia and the European Union. The officials highly appreciated their meeting with the Georgian official and looked forward to cordial relations in the future as well.
