Judo Master Shohei Ono Leads Expert Class in Georgia

Georgia: The legendary Japanese judoka master, Shohei Ono held an expert class for young judokas on 24 March, 2025 at Rustavi Sports Palace.

The aim of this class was to inspire and educate young judokas by sharing with them the exceptional skills and numerous accomplishments made by Shohei Ono. His impressive judo career was what made him an ideal instructor for the event.

During the event, Shohei Ono taught several different moves, with children excitedly trying them during training time with each other.

The event was attended by the State Representative of Kvemo Kartli, Giorgi Dokhturishvili; First Deputy Giorgi Shinjikashvili; the delegate of the historical villages of Rustavi and Gardabani, Irakli Shatakishvili; representatives of local authorities of Kvemo Kartli municipalities; veteran judokas and students of the sports school.

Moreover, Georgian titled judokas Varlam Liparteliani and Avtandil Chrikishvili also held a master class at the Rustavi Sports Palace along with the two time Olympic and three-time world champion, Shohei Ono.

It is to be noted that the master class was attended by almost all the athletes from most of the universities of Kvemo Kartli.

Kvemo Kartli region also shared a post on their official Facebook account. The post was accompanied by images from the event. 

Shohei Ono

Shohei Ono is regarded as one of the top judo fighters. He has won two Olympic gold medals, three World Championships and five Grand Slams.

Ono received numerous honors securing a classical technique winning style and boasting an all ippon winning style. He also has one of the highest records of ippon finishes in judo of all time. Also, he became a top classed idol in the judo sport where a considerable amount of search was initiated to find more about his biography.

He gained popularity after fighting in the round of 64 against Korea\\’s dual World Champion Wang Ki-chun during the 2013 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. He was the third courtesy lightweight champion of Japan within four years alongside Hiroyuki Akimoto and Nakaya.
