Kutaisi, Georgia: A brand-new one-step English-language medical program is being introduced by Kutaisi International University (KIU) in collaboration with Federico II State University of Naples beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year.
With the involvement and promotion of the Italian Embassy in Georgia, Kutaisi International University (KIU) hosted the Georgian-Italian Conference (ACIG 2025) in which the presentation of the new medical educational program was held.
The conference is being attended by representatives from 14 Georgian and 13 Italian universities. The two-day event aims to strengthen academic collaboration between Georgian and Italian universities, advance educational and exchange initiatives, and foster innovative approaches to internationalization-related problems.
The conference was opened by the rector of KIU, Professor Giorgi Khubua. Tamar Ghvamichava, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, addressed the participants and noted that one of the main priorities of the Ministry is the internationalization of higher education, which promotes the development of unique programs in cooperation with European universities and to implement them in Georgian higher education institutions.
It is noteworthy that Naples Federico II State University was founded in 1224, has more than 90,000 students, and is one of the oldest state universities in the world. Upon completing the program, students will receive double diplomas from KIU and Naples University. The program offers students a unique opportunity for international recognition and career advancement. Professors of Kutaisi International University and Naples University lead the learning process.
Implementation of the joint program will greatly contribute to the preparation of highly qualified medical staff in Georgia. During the exchange semester, Georgian students will have the opportunity to study at the University of Naples. In turn, Naples University students will spend at least one semester studying on the KIU campus.
The implementation of exchange and joint scientific research projects must be also taken into account for academic personnel.
During the two-day conference, between Kutaisi International University (KIU) and AIP Georgian-Italian Education Center “Minerva”, a memorandum of cooperation will also be signed.
The conference was attended by Georgia’s Minister of Refugees, Labor, Health, and Social Protection Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Health and Social Affairs Zaza Lominadze, the Italian Ambassador to Georgia Massimiliano D’Antuono, the Executive Director of the International Center for Education, and Rector Nunu Mitskevich and Vice President of the Georgian-Italian Education Center “Minerva” Jovani Jacomantonio.
