Russia-Ukraine War: The Ukrainian capital city, Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities were rocked with a barrage of Russian strikes on Monday morning. The latest attack from Moscow targeted the key infrastructure in Ukraine. The attack is said to be retaliation for the drone attack over Moscow’s fleet on Black Sea Port, which it alleges to be coordinated by Ukraine.
The Ukrainian cities woke up to loud explosions on Monday while receiving text messages from the emergency services about the threat of a missile attack while air raid sirens went on for three straight hours.
Following the hits on energy facilities, Ukrainian cities were cut off from electricity and water supplies, stated the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko.
The local authorities have been working on restoring the supply of electricity from a damaged facility that empowers 350,000 apartments in Kyiv. In Kharkiv, the Russian strikes hit critical infrastructure and ceased operations at the subway.
The authorities have further warned of possible power outages in Zaporizhzhia city. Damage to critical infrastructure was also reported in the Cherkasy region, southeast of Kyiv, The Kirovohrad region of central Ukraine also reported the hits in the energy facility.
A missile had landed over the civilian buildings in Vinnytsia. However, no casualties have been recorded so far, as per the mayor, Serhii Borzov. Also, some parts of the railways suffered from power cut-offs.
The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, stated that Russian forces have been continuously attacking civilian infrastructure facilities. “We will persevere, and generations of Russians will pay a high price for their disgrace,” Yermak said.
This is the second time in a month that Russia has attacked the Ukrainan infrastructure with its barrage of missiles.
