Georgia: The First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, met with Hungarian Minister of Economic Development Marton Nadi.

The meeting of the first persons of the economic authorities of the two countries was held within the framework of the official visit of the Hungarian government delegation to Georgia.

Levan Davitashvili thanked his Hungarian colleague for his visit to Georgia and his support of our country.

The main topics of the meeting of the economic ministers of Georgia and Hungary were trade-economic relations, their further development prospects, and the work to be done in this regard.

The meeting discussed the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Hungary, whose fifth session was held in Budapest in 2022. The next meeting of the Commission will be held in Tbilisi, and the prospects for deepening cooperation in the following areas will be discussed: trade and investments, tourism, agriculture, environmental protection and energy, transport, connectivity and innovation, education and science, culture, Georgia-European Union relations, and others. In addition, the first Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia stressed that the agreement between countries on investment promotion and mutual protection, signed in 2024, will play an essential role in realizing the investment potential of the two countries.

“There is a significant potential to deepen the trade-economic partnership between Georgia and Hungary in many directions.” In this regard, we will work actively, including within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission. I want to point out that our economic bonds are growing, including – this year, with 9-month data, trade turnover, compared to last year, increased by 20% and reached $64 million. We have the same picture in different directions, including tourism. It is our task to bring these connections to even higher levels and indicators, for which we will actively cooperate”, – said Levan Davitashvili.

The progress of the Black Sea submarine cable project is another issue that the heads of economic institutions in Georgia and Hungary have discussed. As noted, this is the most critical infrastructural project, including the security of Europe’s energy system—it should connect Georgia and Europe’s electricity systems.

The parties agreed that close cooperation towards its realization would continue.
