Georgia: The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare Mikheil Sarjveladze met with Silviu Domente, Head of the Georgian delegation to the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 30, 2025, Wednesday.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook page on the same day. The Ministry also shared a small note along with the photographs.
According to the small note shared by the Georgian Health Ministry, it should be noted that the meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister Irakli Sasania, and the Deputy Director General of the National Center for Disease Control, Irma Khonelidze, who is also the project director of the Global Foundation.
At the meeting, issues of the Unified Coordination Council for measures against HIV infection/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria were discussed. They talked about the new grant application submitted to the Global Fund and reviewed the activities implemented under the Fund, which were highly rated by the World Health Organization.
At the meeting, Silviu Domente introduced to the Minister the preparatory grounds for launching a new, important, and innovative project in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the World Bank, by the decision of the Pandemic Fund.
It is also worth noting that, at the meeting, it was emphasized that Georgia is the only country in the region. It applied last year and obtained the funding mentioned in terms of high competition. The selection of the country was determined by the reforms made in the health care system and the tangible results achieved.
At the meeting, it was noted that current global trends can influence the configuration and priorities of grant projects in Georgia in various countries of the world. The meeting noted that the changes serve the smooth operation of priority programs and the more effective use of funding.
At the end of the meeting, the parties focused special attention on the importance of global partnership and reiterated their readiness to work together on public health. It was noted that the partnership with the Global Fund will continue, which is important for the country to maintain progress in the field and ensure further development.
