Georgia: The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia Mikheil Sarjveladze participates in Abu Dhabi Global Health Week from 15-17 April 2025.
The event was opened by Tedros Adano Gebreisus, Director General of the World Health Organization. The main aim of the event was to bring together healthcare leaders, innovators, regulators, experts, investors, and other stakeholders to promote technological advancement and sustainability.
At the conference, within the panel discussion, Mikheil Sarjveladze spoke about healthcare equality and noted that in Georgia, healthcare policies and reforms are defined by this principle.
Mikheil Sarjveladze said, “This historic step is the result of many years of consistent work and shows what is possible when equality is part of data-driven strategies and global collaboration.” In January 2025, the World Health Organization declared Georgia to be malaria-free.
Financial security is one of the most important factors for healthcare equity, he said. Mikheil Sarjveladze discussed reforms in this area, including the removal of annual limits, reference prices for pharmaceuticals and cancer medications, and the DRG model of funding medical facilities.
“The future of health equity depends on a shared vision and responsibility, both in governments and in multifaceted institutions and communities.” Georgia is committed to this path and we thank our partners – WHO, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and others – that we are following this path together,” the Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze noted.
The event is also attended by Georgian Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Giorgi Janjghava.
During Global Health Week, Mikheil Sarjveladze will talk about the potential of artificial intelligence in the healthcare system. Also, a meeting is scheduled with the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Health Department and the head of the conference Mansour Al Mansoori.
