An information meeting was held with slaughterhouses on the issues of waste categorization and management. It was organized by the National Food Agency; a meeting with representatives of slaughterhouses was held, during which the reform of classification and management of waste of non-food products of animal origin was discussed.
The deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Lasha Avaliani and Solomon Pavliashvili, attended the meeting.
According to Lasha Avaliani, Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, the goal of this reform is to dispose of and recycle waste.
“Certain regulations that address the disposal of non-food products of animal origin are gradually coming into force. Therefore, a meeting was held with sector representatives to assess readiness on one hand and, on the other hand, to introduce co-financing programs. Participants of the meeting also had the opportunity to hear from businesses that are ready to recycle non-food waste, create value-added products, and promote sustainable, eco-friendly approaches to environmental protection,” said Lasha Avaliani, Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
The representatives of the institutions in the system of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture provided detailed information to the business sector regarding the requirements set by law, discussed the general rules of slaughterhouses and waste management issues in the working format. Special attention has been paid to co-financing programs, which the Rural Development Agency offers slaughterhouses for infrastructure development.
“All stakeholders attended today’s meeting. It is noteworthy that businesses have been able to take advantage of the agrocredit to set up infrastructure and refrigeration farms. It is also very important that there is a way to recycle waste and the appropriate technologies for their treatment,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.
According to Giorgi Iakobashvili, the head of the National Food Agency, the state offers development opportunities to slaughterhouses, along with its obligations. “In its part, the National Food Agency, with activated control, creates a competitive environment and recruits benevolent businesses”, – noted Giorgi Iakobashvili.
Representatives of the Food Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, the National Food Agency, the Rural Development Agency, the Department of Environmental Supervision, the Solid Waste Management Company, and the private sector attended the meeting.
