Georgia: The new academic year has begun in Georgian schools. In connection with this, Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Giorgi Amilakhvari visited the 160th public school in Tbilisi and congratulated teachers and pupils on starting their studies.
The minister, together with Giorgi Tkemaladze, chairman of the Tbilisi Municipality City Council, and Vladimir Bozhadze, a member of the city council, inspected the school’s infrastructure and renovated building, which was fully rehabilitated in September of this year.
Complete rehabilitation of the 160th public school in Tbilisi, which has 1100 pupils, was carried out by the SSP Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Agency. The facade, roof, toilets, study and administrative rooms, corridors, staircases, library, activity hall, and indoor and outdoor sports courts were rehabilitated. Heating, water-sewerage, and electrical wiring systems were completed within the project.
A large-scale construction/rehabilitation project is underway in Georgia to improve school infrastructure.
It is important that 60 public schools be completely rehabilitated in September-October of this year, and 100 public schools will be constructed/fully rehabilitated by the end of the year.
As a result of the implementation of these infrastructural projects, 28 147 students will continue their studies in an environment that is up to date with international standards.
In addition, in the fall of 2024, the state procurement will be announced for the construction of 15 public schools and the complete rehabilitation of 23 schools.
It is important that new schools be equipped in accordance with modern standards during rehabilitation and construction.
A transportation program for students will continue in the 2024-2025 academic year to increase access to education.
Schools are meeting news for the academic year 2024-2025. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth has decided that children who turn six before December 1 can register for the first grade.
For the new academic year, more than 50,000 first-graders have started studying in Georgian schools. Based on the changes implemented in the registration rules for first-graders, an additional 7,000 children were given the opportunity to register in school. Given the increased number of first graders, the Ministry has provided schools with adequate educational resources and inventory.
All public school pupils are still provided with books and schoolbooks. For the new academic year, first-graders and teachers of Georgian public schools received laptops.
It should be noted that the new pay system for teachers’ wages will be in effect from July 1, 2024. The main principle of this system is to create a fair, transparent payment system to ensure quality education in schools.
Within the framework of the new salary system, the salary of teachers has increased unprecedentedly. In particular, the salary of all public school teachers and special teachers increased by an average of 500 GEL.
