Georgia: MIA seizes illegal weapons in Tbilisi, Guria, Samegrelo and Imereti, detains 6 people

Georgia: The Internal Affairs Ministry of Georgia on Sunday said that law enforcers had seized illegal firearms and ammunition in several parts of the country, namely Tbilisi, Guria, Samegrelo, and Imereti, and detained six people.

Georgia: The Internal Affairs Ministry of Georgia on Sunday said that law enforcers had seized illegal firearms and ammunition in several parts of the country, namely Tbilisi, Guria, Samegrelo, and Imereti, and detained six people.

As per the sources, the officials have told that the investigation regarding the facts of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of arms and ammunitions is undergoing under the 3rd and 4th parts of Article 236 of the Georgian criminal code.

As per the law, this offence carries a maximum sentence of 3 to 7 years in jail.

Tbilisi Police L., born in 1991, was convicted of various crimes in the past. 

He was apprehended in Georgia’s capital city Tbilisi on charges of illegal purchase, holding and carrying of arms and ammunition. While searching the detainee’s personal and residential apartment during that time, the law enforcers had seized Makarov system firearms, ammunition and 15 cartridges as evidence.

Moreover, Guria police arrested J.J., born in 1963, on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. He was arrested in one of the villages of Chokhatauri municipality. During the search, police seized Kalashnikov assault rifles, a Winchester hunting rifle, assault rifles and 20 rounds of ammunition.

Officials of the Ozurgeti District Division of the same department arrested Z.G., born in 1968, on charges of illegal purchase and storage of arms and ammunition. During the search of the detainee’s home, officials found a double-barreled shotgun, a revolver and 15 rounds of ammunition as evidence.

Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti police arrested D.A., born in 1993, convicted in the past. Arrested in Zestaponi for illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. A search of his home and an auxiliary store turned up Kalashnikov assault rifles, a pistol, two assault rifles and 30 rounds of ammunition.

Officers of the Zugdidi and Tsalenjikha District Divisions of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department arrested G.M., born in 1974, who was convicted of murder in the past as a result of operative-investigative measures and investigative actions. And V.K., born in 1967, was convicted of theft in the past. Arrested at various times on charges of illegal purchase-storage-carrying of firearms and ammunition. Police seized 2 pistols, a pistol and cartridges as evidence as a result of a personal and vehicle search of the detainees.
