Georgia: State Minister Tea Akhvlediani meets delegation of European Affairs Committee of Latvian Parliament

The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Tea Akhvlediani held a meeting with the delegation of the European Affairs Committee of the Latvian Parliament.

Tea Akhvlediani thanked the Latvian parliamentarians for their strong support for the territorial integrity of Georgia’s sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders, as well as for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.

The State Minister reviewed the priorities, results achieved, and future plans for the activities of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Involvement, as well as for the Civic Equality and Integration Policy.

The humanitarian and legal situation in the occupied regions of Georgia and the discrimination of the local population, especially ethnic Georgians living in the Gali and Akhalgori districts, and other gross violations of fundamental rights were discussed in detail.

Moreover, significant attention was paid to the facts of illegal detention and the need for continued efforts by international partners to ensure the immediate release of all illegally detained Georgian citizens in the humanitarian context.

The State Minister briefed the Latvian parliamentarians on the implementation of the Georgian government’s policy of reconciliation and engagement, which aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of the conflict-affected population and to deepen dialogue and confidence-building between the artificially divided community.

For its part, the parliamentary delegation reaffirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, as well as for the peace process.
