Roseau, Dominica: The Labour Party leader and the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Mr Roosevelt Skerrit lashed out against the double standards that the United Workers Party has been carrying up, at the Candidate Launch Ceremony of Darron Lloyd, held in St Joseph on November 20th.

The opposition party has been indulged in personifying Skerrit as a ‘Villain’ for calling in snap general elections within three years instead of the usual time-lapse of five years.

PM Skerrit, in his address, highlighted the opposition’s intentions of tarnishing Dominica’s dignified perception in the world by withdrawing from the general elections and pointing out fingers at the political instability in Dominica. Additionally, he quoted Timothy Harris as an example, who had collapsed his governance within two years and is still being recognized as a gentleman.

Similarly, Mia Mottley of Barbados had called for snap elections for even lesser time period but still being considered a genius.

The United Workers Party has already backed off from contesting in the elections from the six constituencies, which they believed to be the strongest bastions of the Labour Party.

However, the withdrawal has been just the smoke screen as the opposition has continued to sponsor the Independent candidates instead of getting themselves into the contest publically.

Such has been the plight of the opposition in Dominica that has been voicing out threats to Dominica’s democracy, having Skerrit being sure to be the Prime Minister of Dominica for yet another time. Skerrit termed the opposition’s withdrawal from elections an attempt to confine the voter turnout.

PM further stressed the internal rifts that have been persistent in UWP’s management. As per Prime Minister Skerrit, the expulsion of Dr, Pascal from the UWP, while still being their one of the embraced member is one such evidence of their internal disputes and the double standards.

A certain faction of the party has been supporting Dr Pascal, while one faction of the party has been rooting for another candidate in the St. Joseph constituency.

PM Skerrit took a dig over the same while he announced Darron Lloyd to be the Labour Party’s representative candidate from St. Joseph constituency for the upcoming elections. He stated that “Even in this one constituency, there will be three faces of UWP on the ballot paper. But, my dear friends, there shall only be one candidate for Labour and that is Darron Lloyd!”

The UWP’s failure to be the crowd puller in its campaigns was also highlighted in PM Skerrit’s address. He publicized that UWP had called for 70,000 residents to the Bayfront, where only 324 persons showed up.

Meanwhile, PM Skerrit’s casual walk around the streets of the capital city, Roseau, had attracted a larger number of Dominicans.

The odds, so far, have been in Labour Party’s favour and the ultimate day, i.e. December 6th, isn’t so far Dominicans will choose for their government.
