“Make Samgori Green” Program held in Samgori District

On December 07, 2023, In the Samgori district of Georgia with the support of the Swedish Embassy, the greening action program was held. This was held under the name of “Make Samgori Green”.

As the name suggests the main project was to make the area greener. During the framework of the event, a large number of trees were planted which included 133 cypress trees planted in the square on Takaishvili Street in Varketili. The financial assistance, care and patronage of this significant project was provided by “Ecoservice Group” Ltd.


On this occasion the chairman of the Tbilisi City Council Giorgi Tkemaladze, and the Ambassador Emergency and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia, Anna Liber were also present during the greening event.

As the tree planting season is going on in the whole of Georgia, the local authorities decided to launch this plantation drive in different parts of the city.

Speaking on the occasion Chairman Giorgi Tkemaladze stated that the city council is very much concerned about environmental protection. He also added that in the past years, many such drives were launched by the authorities to make the area of the city hall greener.

According to the mayor, with the rising global heat the issue of climate change has gotten greater importance. Moreover, all the Municipalities should follow the practise that are adaptable to the concept of sustainable development.

The sustainable development means using natural sources as per need . Moreover there should not be no overuse of the natural sources ,Mayor added.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture has launched many programmes directed at protecting the environment in the country.


 On the other hand Anna Lieber stated  “I am very glad to attending today’s event which is being organised as part of Ecosummit 2023. Moreover, Each tree is very important in the fight against carbon emissions. Today, we have planted 133 base trees so their effect will be special on the environment. “We all need to understand the importance of trees and plants in urban development and environmental protection”.

Officials of the City council said that the action of greenery in Samgori district is a campaign of nature, and it will continue in the future and more trees will be planted as well.
