Mtskheta Mayor greets Ilia II on turning 90

The administration of the Mtskheta municipality congratulated Ilia II As he turned 90 years old. He was born in Ordzhonikidze on 4 January 1933.

The local administration also took to their social media pages and stated on Facebook that “Catholic-Patriarch of the whole Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Bozvinti and Tskhum-Abkhazia, Ilia II turned 91 years old”.

“Congratulations with great love and respect to our patriarch on his anniversary. I wish him health and long life. His Holiness is an example of dedication, compassion and love for our nation.”

Dimitri Zurabishvili, Mayor of Mtskheta Municipality added further”.

Dmitri Zurabishvili, while congratulating Ilia 2, said that “he is a great spiritual leader of the 21st century and a guiding force for the whole of Georgia. I Wish you a great time in the new year of 2024”.

Sometimes, the Ilia is also called Iiya or Elijah. He is the supreme spiritual leader of the Orthodox Church of Georgia.

Although Ilia 2 is known as a great spiritual leader of all time in Georgia, but even then, he came into the limelight in the year 2008; at that time, he made an appeal to political leaders and the church over expressing concern that orthodox Russian were bombing the orthodox Georgian.

Moreover, Ilia 2 also gained great respect among Georgians when he visited the areas that were under the control of Russia.

Mayor also wished a long life to Ilia 2 and stated that his guidencce is very importnat for the country. He also stated that with his blessing, the country will be more successful in future as well.

On the other hand social media user also flooed the internet with the best wishes posts to wish the Ilia 2 a happy and prosperous and successfull year ahead.
