Culture ministry congratulates Ivane Iantbelidze on his 70th birthday

Georgia: The Ministry of Culture congratulates the honoured artist of Georgia, Ivane (Vano) Iantbelidze, on his 70th birthday, i.e. on Sunday, January 14, 2024. 

Ivane “Vano” Iantbelidze is a Soviet and Georgian film, television and stage actor. He was born on January 14, 1954.

Vano Iantbelidze graduated from the Acting Faculty of Shota Rustaveli State Theater Institute 1975. In the same year, he started his creative activity in Telavi State Theater and, at the same time, became one of the leading actors in the theatre. For several seasons, with the status of artistic director, he was in charge of the theatre. 

Vano Iantbelidze and his stage partners and fellow directors created an essential period in the history of Telavi Art Theater in the last decades of the previous century.

Notable from the roles played by Vano Iantbelidze: Khariton (p. Kakabadze’s “Kolmeurn’s Marriage”), Chonta (Vazha-Pshavela’s “Moktili”), Leo Vaneli (L. “Season opening” for Roseba), Papa George (g. Dochanashvili’s “Covering Whip”), Ferdinand (p. Schiller’s “Comparison and Love”), Mr. Dave (L. Tabukashvili’s “So what, if it’s wet, wet lilac”), Jin (“Aladdin”), Lion, King (t. Chiladze’s “Goodbye lions”) and others.

In 1986, he received the title of Meritorious Artist of Georgia for playing Vasiko’s role in the play “Viewing Day” (T. Chiladze)

Georgia was awarded a state prize; in addition, in performances “Alale” (R. Inanishvili) and “Henrich IV” (L. Pirandelo), he became the laureate of the annual award of the Union of Theater Achievers of Georgia for his leading roles (1987 and 1993).

The actor has been shot in films: “The Sad Horn“, “It Snowed in Winter Gardens”, “Trenches” and more. In 2006, for the character portrayed in the movie “Two Khevsuri”, he received the award for the best male role.
