Meeting of executive board of Agency of Protected Area’s project held

Tbilisi: An important meeting was held recently at the Georgia Protected Areas Agency to discuss the problems of Georgia’s protected areas. This was held at the Agency of Protected Areas.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the meeting of the Executive Board of the project “Strengthening the Financial Sustainability of the System of Protected Areas in Georgia” is being funded by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was held at the Protected Areas Agency.

This meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas David Iosebashvili, along with the Executive Director of the Caucasus Nature Foundation (CNF), Elisabeth Messoud, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Georgia, Douglas Webb and other members of the Council.

On this occasion the members of the Council discussed the results of the project for 2023 and planned activities. The talks touched upon important activities implemented within the project such as the results of the biodiversity field monitoring.

It also discussed an online learning platform where each employee has the opportunity to undergo qualification courses as well as the issues of setting up the pottery ecotourism complex in Borjom-Kharagauli National Park, which makes the park even more interesting and comfortable on a journey.

It should be added that Strengthening the Financial Sustainability of the System of Protected Areas in Georgia is a five-year project financed by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and the Bank of Georgia.

At the same time, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is implementing this project. Caucasus Nature Foundation (CNF) is the implementing part in Georgia.

During the meeting attendees also expressed their concern over global warming and climate change-related issues. They also agreed that in future more initiatives in this direction are required to make the environment cleaner and safer for all the inhabitants.

It is to be specifically mentioned that global warming has become a big issue of importance at the international level, Global scientific communities, as well as many international organisations, are working in this direction to make the public aware of the issue of climate change and global warming.
