Georgia: A session of the commission for complex study of mountainous regions held

At the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia another meeting of the Commission for the Complex Study of the Mountainous Region of Georgia was held on February 29, 2024.

In this session an updated report under the head of “Modern trends of sustainable development of Oni and Dusheti municipalities” was presented. This report was prepared by a member of the same commission, a doctor of economics, a professor, head of production forces and production forces of the Technical University of Georgia.

It is to be specifically mentioned that on this occasion the key speaker talked about the ongoing socio-economic, ecological processes and challenges in the mentioned municipalities. Moreover, they also discussed the problems of the tourism and agricultural sectors and ways to solve them.

It was further underlined by the attendees of the meeting that the economic development of highland municipalities requires complex approaches, it should involve the country’s government, as well as regions and municipalities administration active involvement as well.

The speaker also added that considering the diversification of municipal services defining the minimum state standards of municipal services and developing framework policies and procedures are necessary.

Mr. Nodar speaking specifically focused on the issues of promoting the development of mountainous regions in European countries noting that the status of mountainous regions in European countries and other issues are regulated by special laws. He also spoke about the funds of mountainous regions and the criteria established for their determination in Countries of the European Union.

The report which was discussed by members of the commission, famous scientists and guests and this has received great interest and approval from the attending public.

Academicians who participated in the discussion include Roin Metreveli, Giorgi Kvesitadze, Avtandil Arabuli, Tamaz Shilakadze as well as the learned secretary of the Mountain Commission, Doctor of Technical Sciences Miron Fitzkelani. The Professors namely Gela Kifiani, Koba Arabuli, and Marina Kurdadze. The Writer Jemal Davlianidze and publicist Koba Arabuli. The speaker answered the questions asked by the guests of the event. The president of the Academy Academician Roin Metrevel expressed his gratitude and also delivered the concluding address.
