Georgian Amelioration’s General director presents reports of planned activities

Tbilisi: General Director of Georgian Amelioration Tamaz Mghebrishvili presented the report of activities and planned events carried out by ” Georgian Amelioration” LLC at the meeting of the Agrarian Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament.

The Georgian Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Tengiz Nasaridze attended the meeting along with others. The General Director of ” Georgian Amelioration” introduced committee members, deputies, and local government representatives about the current situation in the field and he also informed them about the results achieved and challenges.

The talk between all the attendees touched upon projects that are being implemented by the state to rehabilitate, and modernize irrigation and drainage systems and create new modern infrastructure as well.

At the same time Tamaz Mghebrishvili stated “As a result of the past 10 years of mitigation infrastructure projects and other measures 163500 hectares are provided with water, and 43500 hectares of dry land.

The company operateing at presently 15 active reservoirs, 127 large-scale irrigation systems, 32 overhead dumps, 41 drainage systems, and 57 pumping stations through 19 service centers. The company also implements several large-scale projects with active cooperation with international and donor organizations.

Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Tengiz Nasaridze said further that “Agriculture development is impossible without modernized and effective irrigation and drainage systems; that’s why the state is making great efforts in this regard. The report presented to the committee identified the concrete steps that have been taken and the progress that is evident in the modernization of improvement systems. This process will continue actively in the future as well”.

Following the committee meeting another meeting was held with the local community to discuss challenges and solutions. Notably during the external meeting of the committee the participants reviewed the state-funded Khram canal irrigation system rehabilitation works and also know the results. This project will improve irrigation water supply on more than 4000 hectares of agricultural land.

It was agreed by all that more efforts will be taken to complete the ongoing projects in short time.
