Scientific and Research center joins World bee day celebrations

The Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture of Georgia also joined the celebration of International Bee Day. World bee Day is celebrated every year on May 20. The theme of this year's bee day is “Bee Engaged with Youth.”

Tbilisi: The Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture of Georgia also joined the celebration of International Bee Day. World bee Day is celebrated every year on May 20. The theme of this year’s bee day is “Bee Engaged with Youth.”

In Georgia, the Beekeeper Union is the umbrella organization promoting beekeeping. This year  the union chose the Mukhuri village to hold the celebrations. Participants of the event also emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable agricultural practices  They further highlighted the vital role of bees and other beneficial agricultural insects in nature.

“Bees with Young People” theme of year  highlights the importance of youth involvement in beekeeping conservation. Moreover, within the event’s framework  a North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Services representative held a seminar for local beekeepers, farmers, and students. The theoretical-practical training related to artificial insemination, the creation of breeding farms, pest-disease management, and bee inspection issues was also held on this occasion.

It is to be noted that the guests invited to the Mukhuri beekeeping base visited the exhibition of various agricultural crops developed by the center and got acquainted with the samples of honey obtained from the Mukhuri beekeeping base. The event also has support from the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture and the Union of Beekeepers.

The beekeeping specialists at the Agricultural Scientific Research Center  said that “bees and other agricultural insect’s protection is necessary to ensure agricultural production, food security, ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity preservation.

At the same time  to raise public awareness the Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture of Georgia has been actively participating in the campaign to celebrate the  International Day of Bee Protection for many years.

The Mukhuri base has been operating since 2017  in addition to maintaining and propagating endemic populations. The base is actively involved in the training and education of beekeeper-farmers. It regularly conducts free training to attract, train, and involve young personnel in the agricultural field.
