Georgian PM reiterates country’s desire to join EU

Irakli Kobakhidze reiterated that, in spite of some difficulties, the main objective of the ruling regime is to gain full membership in the European Union. In December the country gained the status of a candidate country from the European Union.

There should not be any doubt regarding the intention of his government. There may be many problems with EU integration, but we hope the country will get membership in the European Union before 2030,added PM.

He spoke during his visit to Berlin at the annual Georgian Ambassadors’ Conference. The PM also urged the EU’s leaders to adopt a pragmatic approach to ensure Georgia’s progress toward European integration.

The prime minister further stressed that his government is always ready to establish good relations with other countries.  Georgia’s relationship with other countries must be rebooted and enhanced in all directions . He also added this while referring to the USA.

Prime Minister further stated many things went wrong when Kelly Degnan  US Ambassador to Georgia  and Carl Hartzell, EU Ambassador to the country  worked in Georgia.  However, the present government is also ready for any kind of consultation on every single issue with the international parties.

According to the Prime Minister  he is sure that as soon as the local, regional, and international conditions improve, it may directly affect the relationship between Georgia-USA and the relationship between Georgia and the European Union. I am very hopeful that the war between the Russians and Ukraine will end soon and bring peace and stability to the region.

The Prime Minister held an interesting discussion with the Georgian Ambassadors abroad and reviewed the future steps.  It is to be added that some people expressed concern that Georgia’s adoption of the foreign agents law will make European Integration more difficult. He also added that more steps will be taken to build people’s confidence in the Georgian government.
