Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, is paying an official visit to Latvia at the invitation of the Latvian Parliament.
During the visit, Nikoloz Samkharadze participated in the Parliamentary Forum of the Three Seas Initiative.
He also met with the Head of the Latvian Institute of International Relations, Andris Sprud, and the Representative of the NATO Center for Strategic Communications, Janis Carlsberg.
The main issues to be discussed at the meetings were Georgia’s accession to the European Union, the recommendations made by the European Commission regarding Georgia’s candidate status, the expectations of the NATO summit, the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine and the challenges in the Black Sea region.
Emphasis was also placed on the important role of Georgia in promoting security and stability in the Black Sea region.
“At the Parliamentary Forum of the Three Seas Initiative, we discussed the issue of Georgia’s participation in the initiative. This is an important initiative of the 12 EU countries, which aims to increase the economic, infrastructural and energy potential of the Baltic, Adriatic and the Black Sea countries. Therefore, participation in this initiative will be another important step on the path of European integration for Georgia, ” – said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
