Nino Nozadze a specialist in the Geology Department of the National Environmental Agency won the recent photo contest. She secured the first place. The contest was held under the “Water for Peace and Sustainable Development” theme organised by the Technical University of Georgia.
Nino Nozadze is a Hydrologist by profession and his work is linked to groundwater resources.The photo for which she won the prize was taken in the K️ Akheti region in the village Chaduniani of Lagodekhi municipality. The picture shows the extraction of sweet drinking water from the well reflecting its vital importance for human existence.
In the past few decades water crises have increased globally. In light of global warming and climate change ,rational management and use of water resources is one of the pressing challenges and protecting this precious source is the joint responsibility of all citizens of the globe.
World communities need to come together to protect and preserve the most precious resource so that future generations have quality drinking water resources for their needs as well.
The photo contest winners were appreciated and awarded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). JICA has taken many initiatives in this direction to protect Georgia’s natural resources for a long time with the coordination of local authorities.
Water which is a scarce and valuable natural resource, is depleting rapidly. Water pollution has also contributed significantly to water crisis. As we know a large amount of water is not suitable for drinking. Only a limited amount of water is suitable for drinking which is the main reason for protecting groundwater for future generations by adopting water protection measures.
The contest organisers also said that the main purpose of the contest was to spread awareness of precious natural resources with a special focus on water. They expressed hopes that it would make a large number of people aware of the issue of water management.
The scientific community across the globe is also encourging the Government and other organisation to make strict law for the protection of natural resources as well.
