Baku: Otar Shamugia, the Georgian minster of agriculture and environment protection met Dmitri Mariasin at Baku, capital city of Azerbaizan. Dmitri Mariasin is the director of the UNEEC, the United Nation European Economic Commission.
The Georgian Minister in there to attend the 29th session of COP (Conference of Parties). The meeting of Georgian Minister came on the sideline of this summit there.
The Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia met with Deputy Director of the United Nations European Economic Commission (UNECE) Dmitri Mariasin at the Georgian Pavilion in the framework of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change Parties (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
On this occasion both the parties discussed the progress made by Georgia in environmental protection. At the same time while expressing his gratitude, the Georgian Minister, Otar Shamugia thanked the Deputy Director of the European Economic Commission for his support.
“Georgia is one of the most advanced and active countries in terms of implementation of environmental obligations, it is actively involved in the UN European Economic Commission environmental processes and agreements and actively working on implementation of the recommendations. You have made significant progress in the direction of environmental protection as well, said the director of UNEEC Dmitri Mariasin.
It is also to be added that at the meeting Otar Shamugia spoke about the initiatives taken by the Government of Georgia to protect the environment and emphasized that in order to prevent air pollution, monitoring systems are in place in the country; reforms are underway in the direction of emissions reduction, water resources management and control mechanisms.
The meeting discussed the laws adopted on “water resource management” and “industrial emissions”. According to the Minister, both laws are fully in line with European requirements and implementing them ensures a reduction in environmental pollution and sustainable management of natural resources.
The Deputy Director of the United Nations European Economic Commission (UNECE) expressed full support to Georgia in the implementation of future recommendations. Notably first Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili attended the meeting with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
