Kvareli: Otar Shamugia , Georgia’s Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture visited a cattle farm in Kvareli Municipality. During his visit, the minister inspected the cattle farm and encouraged the farmer to adopt agricultural practices.
The cattle farm, Kvareli Baga is a Jewish model farm that was created 10 years ago. The farm has 3200 Holstein cows and produces 45000 liters of milk daily. A new combined feed plant and a milk processing plant are located on a 450-ha plot of land.
During his visit the Minister also gave a speech and appreciated the farm owner. As per the Minister “It is important for us to promote the creation of more farms, which will allow us to produce more milk and improve the rate of self-sufficiency in the country every year. This year for this very purpose we started implementing a new program within the framework of which farmers will have unprecedented support for seven years.”
At the same time Minster underlined that “we finance the loan’s interest rate for the costs of setting up a farm of appropriate standards. At this stage we have confirmed and started investing about 25 million in this direction as well. We expect to have a lot of interest.
At the same time we help small farms. Over the past year we have financed more than 400 small farmers in the direction of primary milk production so that they can build or reconstruct appropriate stalls and buy appropriate equipment. All this will give us good results in the coming years regarding milk production and meat production.”
The company “Kvarli Baga” is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency grant programs. From 2013 until today it has benefited from the preferential agro-credit project aimed at developing cattle breeding, milk processing, horticulture and the purchase of agricultural mechanization.
The company also benefits from co-financing programs such as “Implement the Future” “State Program for Co-financing Agricultural Mechanization” and “Co-financing Program for Harvesting Agricultural Machinery.”
It is also worth noting that support for the Rural Development Agency for small milk producers within the framework of the modernization of the milk industry and the program is also growing every year. In 2023-2024, more than 400 beneficiaries benefited from the program and co-financing was about 17 million GEL.
