Georgia: During Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s speech at the reception dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day in Berlin, he said that Georgia has a policy of strategic patience and is sure that with this policy, it will be possible to realize the Georgian dream—that Georgia will be a united, whole state.
He said, ” We regained our independence 33 years ago in 1991. Our generation and our older generation remember the 80s of the last century when Georgians fought to restore state independence. In 1988, the first large-scale dissident rally was held, and at that time, no one believed that in just a few years, our dream could come true and Georgia could become an independent state again. However, this dream came true, and in 1991, Georgia’s restoration of state independence was announced. It is symbolic that today’s event was attended by the son of the first president, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia.”
The PM also stated, “We’ve had a pretty tough history in those 33 years – there have been many trials, including four wars, which we’ve endured in these three decades. It was a very difficult way to develop and form a statehood, and the support of our friends was very important in this way. It should be noted that the support of the German state and the German people towards Georgia was exceptional. Since the 80s, we have felt this support and help from Germany, and since Georgia restored its independence, we have experienced the benefits of this support even more strongly. As I mentioned in my speech, since the 90s, Germany has made a special contribution to developing and forming Georgian statehood, for which I once again thanked the German state, German people, and our German friends.”
During his speech, He also emphasized the particular importance of peace because, during these four years, we have felt even more strongly the importance of peace and state independence, state sovereignty. In these four years, they have gone through numerous battles to maintain peace and establish our state’s independence and sovereignty, and this battle was very successful. He is sure that in the future, we will walk firmly in the right direction, re-establish our independence and sovereignty, and maintain peace in our country, which are essential conditions for the development of Georgia.
They have their dreams, and the main dream, of course, is to unite our country. In this sense, it is symbolic that they are talking about this topic in Germany. Germany is exactly the symbol of how one can unite his country with patience. For decades, Germany has been patiently waiting for unification, and finally, in 1989, the Germans made that dream come true.
The PM Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized that Georgia has a critical national task—joining the European Union. They have an ambitious goal: to make Georgia a member of the European Union by 2030. At the reception, our children performed the European Union anthem wonderfully, and he is sure that the future of these children is in the EU. They will definitely live in a united Georgia, which will be an EU member country, and this will happen very soon. In all of this, it certainly matters to support our friends.
Georgian Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Germany Levan Izoria addressed the guests gathered at the reception dedicated to the Independence Day of Georgia.
