The Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Adjara, Koba Nakaidze, and the Deputy Director of Adjara Public Health Center, Nona Efadze, got acquainted with the progress of the preventive screening program of osteoporosis.
The Ministry of Health & Social Affairs of Ajara shared the glimpses of the screening program on its official Facebook page on June 18, 2026, Thursday. The Georgian Health Ministry also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
According to the small note shared by the Georgian Ministry, it should be noted that the main aim of the program was to detect osteopenia and osteoporosis at an early stage, significantly reducing the risk of fractures and complications of the disease.
Notably, the screening was conducted for women over 50 years old and men over 60 years old registered in Adjara territory according to risk factors. It also involves a densitometric study (X-ray-absorption densitometry), which is the most effective method of assessing bone tissue density.
“The number of citizens on osteoporosis screening is high, given that the number of beneficiaries has increased compared to last year. Early detection of osteoporosis is especially important to maintain quality of life and independence in old age,” noted Deputy Minister Koba Nakaidze.
According to Nona Efadze, Deputy Director of the Adjara Public Health Center, the Public Health Center continues to inform the population and increase the availability of preventive services to enable at-risk citizens to undergo timely research and receive appropriate medical management if necessary.
This year, up to 1,200 beneficiaries will receive services under the program. The program is implemented in “Evex” and “Solomedi” clinics.
