Georgia: The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, awarded the rising sportspersons of 2024 with medals of honor on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The Ceremony was held at the Georgian State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sports.
It should be noted that the members of the National Handball Team, coaches, staff, and heads of the National Volleyball Federation were awarded at the ceremony. The Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili also attended the award ceremony of the sportspersons.
The Georgian State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sports shared the snippets of the award ceremony on its official Facebook page along with a small note related to the award cermony.
According to the information shared by the Georgian Sports University, it should be noted that the Prime Minister of Georgia addressed the guests with a welcome speech. In his speech, he noted that the development of sports in Georgia is one of the main priorities and emphasized the important achievements of the country’s athletes in recent years.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the president of the federation Vakhtang Meifariani, the head coach Tite Kalandadze, as well as every employee of the federation, who played an important role in the development of handball and the success of the national team.
It is worth noting that the students of the Georgian State University of Sports: Zurab Abramishvili, Irakli Kbilashvili, Giorgi Livatadze, Zurab Tsintsadze, Giorgi Areshidze, Giga Zarnadze, George Grishikashvili, Nikoloz Kalandadze and Vakhtang Government are worthy members of the Georgian national team.
Moreover, Merab Metreveli, the Head of Administration at Sports University and a consultant for the national handball team played an active role in developing the team.
Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the national handball team’s success is a significant advance in the development of Georgian sports, serving as a major motivation and inspiration for youth.
